We’re gearing up for the launch of the Plenty! course this week – you can join us for the launch on Thursday evening if you like. As we look forward to communities engaging with this new discussion resources, I thought it was worth sharing a little detail about what the course covers.
Across the six sessions, participants cover the following topics:
- 1 – The stage is set – plenty yet inequality
- 2 – Just can’t get enough – consumerism and advertising
- 3 – Growing pains – growth and debt
- 4 – God is in business – economic justice
- 5 – Running out of planet – climate emergency
- 6 – Joy in Enough – sustainability and wellbeing
It’s a lot to cover, taking in economics, consumerism, environmental and justice questions – but don’t be daunted! The course uses videos, discussion questions and stories that provide easy ways into the topic. Bible passages and prayers ground each session in our faith, with practical steps for responding to these social and environmental problems as part of our discipleship.
For those who are interested, there are recommended organisations, articles and books to follow up and find out more. In this way, the course aims to meet people where they are, and allow participants to follow their curiosity and dive as deep as they like into the issues they find most engaging.
The Plenty! programme calls us to face these multiple challenges, as individuals and as a church. By the end of the series, we hope you will join us in recognising that we are not powerless, and we are not alone. A fairer and greener economy is possible, and we all have a role in helping to shape it.
