Good Money Week has been running for several years now, as a focus point for talking about ethical finance. Run by the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association, it has helped to raise the profile of ethical choices in pensions, investment and banking. Though many Christians and churches have taken part in various ways, there hasn’t been a specific event in the church calendar as part of the week.
That will change this year with the launch of Good Money Sunday, a new initiative organised by the Just Money movement. Good Money Week will run from the 2nd to the 8th of October, with Good Money Sunday happening on the 8th.
The day will help churches to think about the positive impact they can have through their financial decisions. It’s an opportunity to bring our money into our discipleship. “Do you want to take a step to act justly and care for creation with your finances?” ask Just Money. “Would you like to see more people exploring what a good and just use of money looks like? Then, Good Money Sunday is an opportunity to make space to reflect, act and pray.”
You can register your church to take part here, where you will also find ideas for getting involved. Worship and outreach resources to support you will also be available, all helping to start a conversation about ethical money in your community.
Look out for the other Just Money events happening as part of the week too, including A Vision for Jubilee Economics, with Shane Claiborne, which sounds right up our Joy in Enough street.
