The Plenty course around the world

When we launched the Plenty! course in 2021, we chose to make the resource as widely available as possible – free to download from the website for anyone who was interested. Over the two years since, it has been interesting to see how far the course has travelled.

People have downloaded the resource to run discussion groups in Argentina, New Zealand, South Africa, USA, Nigeria, Ireland and Belgium, as well as the many that we know have run across the UK.

In some cases this is a fairly direct use, for a context not too far from our own in Britain. “We are a little group of Belgian Christians from several churches wanting to raise awareness in our churches of the urgency of re-imagining our way of living together and looking for resources to inspire us,” said Laurence. “Thanks for what you do.”

In other places the resource will take some adapting for a non-Western audience or a for different age groups. A youth coordinator from Zambia wrote to us to say they hoped to use the resource with young people in the Diocese of Mongu. Another downloader said they had recently started doing environmental advocacy in the church, and wanted to raise awareness of environmental stewardship in Singapore. “I am interesting in the possibility of replicating this for use in Singapore with adaptation for the local context.”

We’ll be learning what we can from the experience of all our participants, as we think about how to make the most of the resource in the years to come. And if you haven’t come across the Plenty course yet, take a look!

There is another reason, Jeremy, for adding a global democracy session onto the Plenty Course. A World Parliament will have great appeal across different cultures to allow everyone to approach the decision making table and have a voice.
